Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 years after the first Toy Story film debuted, establishing the animation giant as a major animation studio and bringing audiences to iconic figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a brief look into the storyline but leaving viewers wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a latest plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is why Woody is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and helping prize toys find good homes.
Certainly, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
At the very least, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the badge attached to her shirt.
It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
